Tomorrow the Christian Democrats are to officially announce that their candidate for mayor of Tbilisi will be Gia Chanturia, a man who, as far as anyone knows, is still wanted for bribery and corruption by the state.
So if he does appear at a press briefing hopefully journalists will take the oppotunity to ask for clear answers to a few questions:
- Was he guilty of corruption?
- Have the authorities dropped the charges?
- If yes, what was their explanation?
- If no, did he strike a plea bargain with Vano Merabishvili and what were the terms?
- And if the charges have not been dropped, and he has not struck a bargain, why does he think the authorities are happy for him to run for one of the most important public offices in Georgia?
