The purge of the Georgian military announced last week has reportedly already claimed the jobs of 150 senior officers at the rank of colonel and lieutenant colonel reports Rezonansi says the Georgian Messenger.
The paper reports that professional soldiers have been replaced by interior ministry and former prison staff, possibly a sign of how minister Bacho Akhalaia is seeking to turn the military into a politicised force loyal to the inner core of the government grouped around Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili.
