First Andy Garcia and now Ivana Trump: Saakashvili lives the (B list) Hollywood dream

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly versionSend to friendSend to friendPDF versionPDF version

Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili has reportedly hosted a reception for haute couturist, Ivana Trump, licensed under the Creative Commons, attribution: Manfred Werner http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Life_Ball_2009_(arrivals)_Ivana_Trump.jpgCanadian shopping channel star and reality TV presenter Ivana Trump (pictured).

Apparently Ms Trump is in town because she plans to open a "multi-function entertainment center" in Batumi.

However, Trump's previous ventures into property development have been far from trouble free. Ex-husband Donald objected to her trademarking her surname for property deals and, despite having acted as "spokesperson" for a development project in Australia since 2001 it has never been built and even its website has gone off-line.

Saakashvili has made the development of Batumi his personal project - making repeated visits there and using it as the background for denunciations of the opposition and for various hyperbolic promises of increased tourism revenue.
